How to be an early riser?

I read an article a few days back on how to be an early riser. My mistake of not bookmarking the website. Here I am trying to share with you in my own words, how you can be an early riser.

I've been bugged by people who just couldn't sleep at night and keep calling me at around 2 or 3 a.m. I usually won't answer the call. Depending on who’s calling though. But the worst of all, he/she will try to reach me again in the day. Right when I'm busy working in the office and suddenly blew my momentum.

I've been oversleeping since a few months back. Sometimes I overslept so bad that I couldn't even hear the alarm clock ringing. That’s the worst case scenario though. What’s the deal with sleeping anyway? Why should we sleep? I would rather spend the time to do something more productive rather than idle away on the bed. But in reality, if I really spend the time doing something productive rather than sleeping, I couldn't do anything at all because my body doesn't get it’s rest. Then my vision will start to blur, my judgement will impair and I will start talking crap. Alright, enough of the rambling already, let’s start on how you can be an early riser. If you want to do it though. If you really don't believe being an early riser is beneficial, then go ahead and sleep your whole afternoon. You will find that your life is a stand still. It’s true!!

All right. First, you need an alarm clock. If you're a hardcore sleeper, I suggest you get the loudest alarm clock ever built. This is crucial because nobody can wake you at the exact minute and seconds other than an alarm clock. Waking at the exact minute and seconds is the key to get you to be an early riser. You'll know why later. Anyway, back to our steps. First set your alarm clock to 6 a.m!! Yeap!! I'm not kidding. Just 6 a.m. No more, no less. Because at 6 a.m, you're going to open the window and smell the fresh air. Then, go and shower please. There’s no winter in Singapore, so there’s no excuses.

Then right after you shower, this is when you'll feel fresh and start making your breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!! Don't miss it. As a matter of fact, breakfast will help you lose weight. YES!! LOSE WEIGHT!! So people!! Take breakfast please!! I'm not talking about the breakfast during fasting month kay!

After you had your breakfast, while drinking your favourite beverage or something, read the papers. You'll kick start your brain to start accelerating.

If you're not working office hours, you can start your financial planning or your personal accounting or whatever. Take note that by this time, it might already be 9 a.m. and just in time the bank is open for business. Doing your financial planning and shits during this hour is good because they're just a phone call away. I have the habit of doing my personal accounting at night, after the day is done but I realised that I need to call the bank to query about something and I also have to call my secondary bank to ask about my loan status. Well, too bad it’s already night and the banks are close. So doing this in the morning is the best. Also, you might probably be the first few customer to call and operators are still fresh and polite.

Ok, ok. I'm not here to talk about financial planning and shits. Basically, I was trying to make a point that waking up in the morning is advantageous. That is why people always believe that early risers are successful. It’s because there’s alot of advantages being an early riser. Now, you need to to this everyday. If you feel like you deserve a reward for accomplishing these daily without fail, you may reward yourself by sleeping without setting the alarm clock every Sunday.

The theory is this. Your body have it’s own clock. You can't see it but you can set it. By having the habit of waking up the exact hour and minute everyday, your body will set it’s waking up time around that time. Soon, you might be able to wake up around that time. I didn't say exactly at that time because your body adjust itself whether it needs a few minutes more or less depending on what activity you did the day before. DONNOT!! I REPEAT!! DONNOT reset your alarm clock. Let it be at the same time everyday. Until you can wake up at the same time without the alarm clock on 4 consecutive sundays.

Don't try to sleep when you're not sleepy. Sleeping when you're not sleepy will make you not sleep at all. Read a book. That helps.
Don't drink coffee at night. You might think you still feel sleepy even though you just drank a cup of caffeine but you will go into deep sleep (NREM Stage 4) much later. This will result in you waking up tired. Read more about sleep here.

Alright. Hope that helps. Now I'm going to sleep… *yawn*!! Goodnight!!
