Media Influenced
A couple of days ago, I talked about how our lives are very influenced by the media. Infact, as long as you have a T.V at home, a part of your mindset and definition in visual aspect of things changed a hundred percent. One example is your definition of beauty.
Because I've watched too many discovery channels, I saw quite a number of documentaries on tribal people. One of such is the Mursi tribe who’s women wore lip plate at their lower lip to make themselves look beautiful. Even most of the men in the tribe always wanted to have a wife who have lip plates. I don't think they find supermodels pretty at all and for us, we don't find them attractive unless you have a saddistic fetishes for such things though.
The Ancient Egyption invented cosmetics at around 4000 BC. I'm not sure how it comes about but Cleopatra was ugly and she used alot of cosmetics. Then people used cosmetics eversince. Even the tribes use their own kind of cosmetics in their own way. Somehow the liberated, media influenced people like us evolved the usage of make-up into what we always see on T.V, consisting of foundation, eye shadows, blushers, mascara etc.
I'm not really sure where I'm going with these cosmetics and such but my point is, we're liberated and media influenced as long as we watch T.V or read the papers. This is generally speaking although a handful of people aren't influenced by the media. They don't wear jeans or skirts or bra or panties etc. They even want to give birth naturally at home without any modern medical equipments. Then I will also suggest they also make their own clothes, build their own house and plant crops or herd animals to feed themselves.
I've encountered these people before back when I was still with the Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS). I wasn't allowed in the house when the wife was in labour at home because I'm a guy. So we have to call for a female paramedic instead. They insist that their child be delivered at home and not anywhere else. They don't wear undergarments, they don't have T.V or FM Radio although they're living in a modern apartment. I respect their believes even though my common sense tells me what he’s doing is endangering his wife.
