How To Set Goals…

How to set goals correctly and be a winner. I bet alot of people have alot of goals and I can bet that atleast half of them won't be able to reach it. Goals are very important in life. It determines your future and most importantly, it will definitely boost your moral.

Take for example your goal is to get a new handphone. Let’s say it’s a Nokia N90 that may cost you a quarter or maybe half of your monthly paycheck. I bet you don't want to spend that much on a stupid handphone that doesn't even have artificial intelligence (Infact, no handphone have that). Then suddenly, your current handphone died on you. It just died without giving you any signs and symptoms. You're desperate and you have these feeling inside of you that you might die without being able to call or sms your friend. You just have money to get your dream handphone but you might save alot if you get a cheaper one. Then soon after, your conscience keep telling you to get that expensive and you're quickly overwhelmed. Suddenly you're out from the store, making the first phone call on your brand new phone, telling your boyfriend/girlfriend (just imagine if you don't have one) how happy you are that you got a new phone.

Yes, you succeeded in achieving your goal. You're happy and your moral increased. This is the effect of achieving your goals. But do you think you've reached it correctly? If you ended up eating instant noodles in your office soon after, you've not reached your goal. That isn't what you foresee in the first place.

A winner is someone who does not look at the obstacles in his or her path. Only at the goal they are striving for.

A winner is a person that ignores 'well intentioned advice’ from friends and relations to give up or do something ’sensible’. Instead they remain focused on their objective seeing neither left nor right.

Planning your goal

The correct way to have a goal is to write them. I don't recommend putting them at your blog or even printing them. You're gonna have to write them. But first, how do you write them on a blank piece of paper? There’s alot of ways to do it. To have an easy way out, look for 'Goal Planning Sheet’ in Google. If you like to do it hard and tough, get ready your word processor. If you happen to be one of those that hates Microsoft and you starts throwing up hairballs whenever you see Microsoft Words, use the free Open Office instead.

The hard way

So… you wanna do it the hard way eh? First, fire up your word processor.

Step 1

Make sure you have a very big (Use 'Heading 1′) at the top center of your document, write Goal Planning Sheet. Now, you might not think this is important. Personally, I think this is the most important start. Not only it'll make organizing your documents easier, it will also give you a shout that you have a goal to be achieve.

Step 2

Make 4 boxes side by side. Name them Area, Today’s Date, Final Target Date and Date Achieved. These are important information for your further planning of future goals. It’s a way of tracking yourself, how fast you can achieve that goal.

Step 3

Make a big box for you to write a few sentences explaing what the goal is all about. You can name it Goal Description. These will make a quick reminder for you about the Specific goal, whether it’s Measurable, Attainable, Realistic or Tangible.

Step 4

Make another big box for you to write some explainations why you want to achieve this goal. Explain the benefits from achieving this goal and/or losses to be avoided from achieving this goal.

Step 5

Make 2 big boxes side by side. On the left box, name your box Possible Obstacles and on your right box, name it Possible Solutions. This is the most valuable information for you regarding your goal. We humans (unlike sheepdogs) always plan ahead. It is good in preparing ourself for what comes next.

Step 6

By now, you must already be at page 2 of your document. Just like this entry, we always do things one step at a time. Make yourself a table with atleast 10 rows. Each row is the step by step procedure how you can finally reach your goal. Be sure to add a target date, date reviewed and date completed to each of the row. Setting target have always been very effective. Name any businesses and they all have target. It might stress you, but stress is good. Just don't overstress yourself. Review the step again and make any changes to the step if necessary (You might want to have 2 lines in each row so that you can make the latest changes right below your current step). If you're lost, you should have 4 columns and 10 rows.

Step 7

Right below your step by step procedure, explain your method of tracking your progress.

Step 8

This is an options box. You may write:-
Does this goal support my values for this area of life? [Yes | No]
Is it worth the time, efort and money to reach this goal? [Yes | No | Yes, but later]

Step 9

Make a table of 3 columns and atleast 3 rows. The first column heading will be, Affirmations To Support This Goal (Write positive statesments to raise your confidence). The second and third column heading is your Visualization. One for the items to use and the last column is where to use them (The Items). These are optional but recommended. If you can't think of any item, it can be anything (reality or fantasy) that will make you achieve your goal.

Step 10

Last but not least. This is also a very important part of your goal planning. This is the part where you remind yourself to file the completed goal sheet and keep it safe but reachable. Hang it around your bed or if you're vain, paste it on your mirror.
You might want to laminate your accomplishment and show your children or grand-children how organized you are in planning your goals.

Summary

In case you didn't read all the steps probably you think I was ranting craps but you still want to be a winner and accomplish your goals, just take the points I highlighted in bold and make yourself a sheet. You can write them on your bed sheet if you want, but most importantly, DON'T GIVE UP!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!

Rambles

Some people think they're smart enough to do it their own way. I respect that, but I've learnt to do this from others. It doesn't matter if a child teach you something. It’s better than not to learn anything. We have a brain and conscience to guide use through and to know what is right and wrong. Although we learn from out mistakes, it’s better to learn from other before making mistakes. To learn from others, we have to communicate with people. If your partner/s told you to stop socializing, tell him/her you want to learn and widen your prospect. No business can succeed without socializing or having a personal relation officer. To be successful, start socializing and the willingness to learn from others.

  1. Steve Mister Says:

I can see that your blog is new. No template, no links and only 3 entries. Your 2nd and 3rd are good. I can also see that you're a poet. Your posts are filled with quotes:

Love is a foundation, the pillars are yours to choose.

It doesn’t matter if a child teach you something. It’s better than not to learn anything.

These are strong quotes bro. You should make a page to collect all these. Looking forward for your next entry.

  2. Brown Eyes Says:

Thanks for the suggestion bro. I will make a page. After I'm done with the template. Thanks for dropping by.
